Privacy policy
This policy explains what information the Drip Drop app for iPhone and iPad and this website may collect, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. Raindrop LLC ("we") is responsible for it.
The short version
- There is no account. The game never asks for your name, email address or phone number.
- The game sends anonymous gameplay stats to our own analytics server and to Google Analytics for Firebase, so we can learn which levels are too hard or too easy and test small changes. The stats are not used for advertising.
- In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the game asks first, and nothing is sent unless you tap Share Stats. Everywhere else the stats are on from the first launch.
- You can turn the stats off or on at any time: Settings > Share gameplay stats in the game.
- We advertise Drip Drop on AppLovin, Meta and Google. To learn which of our ads bring players, the game uses Adjust, an ad measurement service, from the first launch. It reports the install, the first time you win levels 1 and 10, and in-app purchases with their price, and shares them with those three ad networks.
- After your first level, iOS asks whether Drip Drop may track you. Your device's advertising identifier is shared only if you tap Allow. You can change that at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- There are no ads in the game, and we do not sell your information.
Your choice
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, gameplay stats are off until you agree. On first launch the game asks "Help tune the levels?" and offers Don't Share and Share Stats. If you choose Don't Share, or close the question without answering, nothing is sent. The game counts you as there if your App Store country or your device's region is one of those countries.
Everywhere else, gameplay stats are on from the first launch, and you can turn them off in Settings. If you turned the stats off in an earlier version, they stay off.
Wherever you are, you can turn the stats on or off in Settings > Share gameplay stats; turning them off stops collection immediately.
What the gameplay stats contain
- How levels are played: which level you start and finish, the attempt number, moves and par, stars, time taken, hints and boosters used, coins earned and spent, and tutorial steps completed.
- Screens and the shop: which screens you open, boosters bought with coins, and which in-app item you bought, its price and whether the purchase went through, was cancelled or failed. Payments are handled by Apple; we never receive your name, card or bank details.
- App use: when the app is first opened, when it is opened and closed, when a session starts and how long it lasts, and when the app or iOS is updated or the app is removed. Google Analytics and our server record these automatically.
- Random IDs: Google Analytics creates a random ID for each install, and our analytics server creates another, so each can tell installs apart. Neither is your device's advertising identifier or vendor identifier; neither service collects those. Deleting the app resets both.
- Technical details: device model, iOS version, app version, language, your App Store country, and the day the game was installed.
- Tests: when we try two versions of something, such as the wording of a screen, which version you saw.
- Approximate region: Google Analytics derives a country or region from your IP address and does not store the address. Our own server discards IP addresses. We do not collect precise location.
Ad features in Google Analytics are turned off for Drip Drop: no advertising identifier, no ad personalisation signals, no ad storage, and no link to Google Ads. The stats are never combined with information from other apps or websites.
While gameplay stats are on, the game also asks Firebase Remote Config for tuning values, such as move limits and prices. Each request sends the Firebase installation ID, the app and iOS versions, your language, country and time zone, and which test group the game is in. The values can lower coin prices, never raise them.
Our analytics server
Our own server runs PostHog, open-source analytics software, on a machine we rent from DigitalOcean in New York. The game sends gameplay stats to it through Cloudflare's network. Only we can reach the stats there, and no one else analyses them.
Measuring our ads (Adjust)
We pay AppLovin, Meta and Google to show ads for Drip Drop in other apps. To know which ads lead to installs and players who keep playing, the game uses Adjust. Adjust runs from the first launch, whatever your gameplay stats answer, and receives:
- Identifiers: the vendor identifier iOS gives Drip Drop, and your device's advertising identifier only if you allow tracking.
- Technical details: device model, iOS version, app version and language, and your IP address, from which a country or region is derived.
- When you install and play: the install, sessions, and the first time you win level 1 and level 10.
- Purchases: each new in-app purchase you pay for, with its price and currency. Restores and refunds are not sent. Apple handles the payment; no name, card or bank details are involved.
Adjust shares these measurements with AppLovin, Meta and Google so they can tell us which ads worked and show our ads to people likely to enjoy the game. Google's on-device conversion measurement, which runs through Adjust, uses signals on your device such as the IP address and the time of the first launch. For players in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the game tells Google that they have not consented to ad personalisation or to their data being used for ads.
If you don't allow tracking, the advertising identifier is never shared. Installs are then counted through Apple's own SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit, which report to the ad networks without any identifier.
Purchase records from Apple
When someone buys an in-app item, or Apple refunds one, Apple sends us a signed record of it: the item, its price and currency, the App Store country, Apple's transaction numbers and the dates. The record has no name, email address or payment details, and we don't link it to your gameplay stats. We use these records to count our revenue, and keep them on a server we rent from DigitalOcean in New York. They reach it through Cloudflare's network.
Where your progress is saved
Your game progress (levels, stars, coins, boosters, your garden and settings) is saved on your device, in the app's own storage, and is removed when you delete the app. If you are signed in to iCloud, a copy is also kept in your own iCloud account, so your progress follows you to a new device. That copy is stored by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; we cannot see it.
Game Center
If you are signed in to Game Center, the game reports your achievements, your total stars and your best chain to Apple's Game Center, where they appear on your profile and the leaderboards. Apple processes this under its own privacy policy. You can play without Game Center.
Who processes it
Google processes the gameplay stats for us as a service provider, under the Firebase data processing terms, and is contractually required to give that data the same or equal protection as this policy describes. Adjust processes the ad measurements for us as a service provider under its data processing terms, and forwards them to AppLovin, Meta and Google, which use them under their own privacy policies to measure and run our campaigns. We will only work with third parties that provide the same or equal protection of user data as this policy. We also export the stats to our own Google Cloud project so we can study level difficulty. Apple processes in-app purchases under Apple's privacy policy. DigitalOcean hosts our server and Cloudflare carries data to it, both as service providers. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to a buyer if the game or company is sold.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics keeps the stats for no longer than 14 months, and we delete our exported copies on the same schedule. Our analytics server keeps them for up to 2 years. Adjust and the ad networks keep the ad measurements under their own retention policies. We keep Apple's purchase records for as long as we need them for our accounts.
Your choices and rights
- Turn gameplay stats off at any time in Settings > Share gameplay stats in the game. Nothing new is collected from that moment.
- Allow or stop tracking at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. When tracking is off, your advertising identifier is not shared.
- To have the ad measurements for your device deleted, email us and we will ask Adjust to delete them.
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on your iPhone and reset the random IDs.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, delete or object to the use of your information. Email us and we will respond within the time the law requires. The stats are not linked to a name or account, so we may not be able to single out yours.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, they are scheduled on your iPhone. No notification service of ours is involved.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and operation.
Emailing us
If you email support, we use your email address and what you send only to answer you, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Children
Drip Drop is rated 4+ on the App Store because its content suits all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13. The gameplay stats are anonymous and contain no personal information such as a name or contact details. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it. In-app purchases go through Apple, where Ask to Buy works as usual.
Changes
If the game starts collecting anything new, for example crash reports, this policy and the App Store privacy label will be updated before that version is released, with a new effective date. This version, for Drip Drop 1.2, adds our own analytics server, gameplay stats on by default outside the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, and tests of small changes. The one before added the purchase records Apple sends us, and the one before that ad measurement with Adjust, iCloud saving and Game Center, for Drip Drop 1.1.
