Privacy policy
Goldfall Tower has no account and no ads in the game. It sends anonymous gameplay stats so we can improve it, and you can turn them off at any time. Its leaderboard adds your tower's height to your country's and your state's totals. To learn which of our own ads on Facebook and Instagram bring players in, it also uses Meta's app measurement, described below. We never sell your information.
In short
- From the first launch, the game sends anonymous stats about how you play to our own analytics server and to Google Analytics for Firebase, so we can see how the game is played, tune it and test small changes. The stats are not used for advertising.
- You can turn the stats off at any time in the game's Settings, with the Share Stats switch. If you chose Don't Share when an earlier version asked, they stay off.
- We advertise Goldfall Tower on Facebook and Instagram. To learn which of our ads bring players, the game uses Meta's SDK from the first launch. It tells Meta when the game is installed and opened, the first time your tower reaches 10 m and 139 m, and App Store purchases with their price.
- The first time you open the game, iOS asks whether Goldfall Tower may track you, and nothing is sent to Meta until you've answered. Your device's advertising identifier is shared only if you tap Allow. You can change that at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- The leaderboard adds your tower's height, as it stands now, to the totals for your country and your state. The game sends our leaderboard server only that height and a random ID. The server works out your country and state from your IP address and doesn't keep the address. No names are shown, and you can leave the leaderboard in Settings.
- There are no ads in the game, and we do not sell your information.
Your choice
Gameplay stats are on from the first launch. Turning the Share Stats switch off in Settings stops them straight away, and they stay off until you turn the switch back on. Earlier versions of the game asked first; if you chose Don't Share then, the stats stay off.
What the stats contain
- How the game is played: each block you drop (its shape and material, where it landed, how long you held it, whether it was a PERFECT), gold made, Gold Rushes, blocks falling off, hearts lost, topples and what you chose, balloons popped, friends and new blocks found, tips shown, and how long you play.
- Screens and the shop: which screens you open, the daily gift, and which in-app item you bought, its price, and whether the purchase went through, was cancelled or failed. Apple handles payment, and we never receive your name, Apple Account or card details.
- App use: when the app is first opened, when it's opened and closed, when a session starts and how long it lasts, and when the app or iOS is updated or the app is removed. Google Analytics and our server record these on their own.
- Random IDs: Google Analytics creates a random ID for each install, and our analytics server creates another, so each can tell installs apart. Neither is your device's advertising identifier or vendor identifier; neither service collects those. Deleting the app resets both.
- Technical details: device model, iOS version, app version, language, your App Store country, and the day the game was installed.
- Tests: when we try two versions of something, such as the wording of a screen, which version you saw.
- Approximate region: Google Analytics works out a country or region from your IP address and doesn't store the address. Our own server discards IP addresses. There is no precise location.
Ad features in Google Analytics are off for Goldfall Tower: no advertising identifier, no ad personalisation signals, no ad storage and no link to Google Ads. The stats are never combined with information from other apps or websites.
Our analytics server
Our own server runs PostHog, open-source analytics software, on a machine we rent from DigitalOcean in New York. The game sends gameplay stats to it through Cloudflare's network. Only we can reach the stats there, and no one else analyses them.
The leaderboard
The trophy on the game's home screen shows the leaderboard: every player's tower height as it stands now, added up by country and by state (or province or region). For it, the game sends our leaderboard server a random ID it creates for your install and your tower's height, whenever it changes. The first time, the server looks up the country and state of your IP address and keeps them with the ID, so you stay on the same teams. It keeps only the ID, the country and state, the height and when it last changed. It doesn't keep your IP address, and the entry isn't linked to your gameplay stats, a name or an account. The leaderboard shows only the totals, never an individual player.
The Leaderboard switch in Settings is on from the first launch. Turning it off deletes your ID, height and teams from the server, and nothing more is sent until you turn it back on. The leaderboard server runs on Cloudflare.
Measuring our ads (Meta)
We pay Meta to show ads for Goldfall Tower on Facebook and Instagram. To know which ads lead to installs and to players who keep playing, the game uses Meta's own software development kit, for app events only (no Facebook login or sharing). It starts once you've answered iOS's tracking question, whatever your gameplay stats answer, and sends Meta:
- Identifiers: an ID Meta's software creates for the install, and your device's advertising identifier only if you allow tracking.
- Technical details: device model, iOS version, app version and language, and your IP address, from which a country or region is derived.
- When you install and play: when the game is installed and opened, and the first time your tower reaches 10 m and 139 m.
- Purchases: each new App Store purchase you pay for, with its price and currency. Restores, refunds and test purchases are not sent. Apple handles the payment; no name, card or bank details are involved.
Meta uses these measurements to tell us which ads worked and to show our ads to people likely to enjoy the game. The game turns off Meta's automatic event logging and its collection of screen names and links, so nothing else about how you play goes to Meta.
If you don't allow tracking, the advertising identifier is never shared, and Meta measures our ads only in aggregate, through Apple's SKAdNetwork and Meta's Aggregated Event Measurement.
Purchase records from Apple
When someone buys an in-app item, or Apple refunds one, Apple sends us a signed record of it: the item, its price and currency, the App Store country, Apple's transaction numbers and the dates. The record has no name, email address or payment details, and we don't link it to your gameplay stats. We use these records to count our revenue, and keep them on a server we rent from DigitalOcean in New York. They reach it through Cloudflare's network.
What stays on your device
The game keeps what it needs in its own app storage on your iPhone or iPad (Apple's UserDefaults):
- your tower: its gold, its hearts, your best height and the blocks resting on it;
- the block friends you've found and the tips you've already seen;
- your settings for sound, music, vibration and stats, and the day you installed the game;
- your wallet: your Nuggets, whether you're a Patron, your daily gift, and the numbers of purchases already added, so no purchase is ever added twice;
- the leaderboard's random ID, the teams you climb for, and the last leaderboard you saw, so it shows without a connection.
This isn't uploaded anywhere and is removed when you delete the app. It's included in your normal device backups, under Apple's terms, not ours.
Purchases
Purchases are made through the App Store with your Apple Account. Apple takes the payment and tells the app on your device what you bought. We never see your name, your Apple Account or your payment details. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Who processes your information
Google processes the stats for us as a service provider, under the Firebase data processing terms, and is contractually required to protect them at least as well as this policy describes. We only work with third parties that give user data the same or equal protection. We also export the stats to our own Google Cloud project to study how the game is played. Meta receives the ad measurements under its own terms and privacy policy, to measure and run our campaigns. Apple processes in-app purchases under Apple's privacy policy. DigitalOcean hosts our server and Cloudflare carries data to it, both as service providers. Cloudflare also runs the leaderboard server for us as a service provider. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to a buyer if the game or company is sold.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics keeps the stats for no longer than 14 months, and we delete our exported copies on the same schedule. Our analytics server keeps them for up to 2 years. The leaderboard keeps your entry until you turn the Leaderboard switch off or ask us to delete it. Meta keeps the ad measurements under its own retention policy. We keep Apple's purchase records for as long as we need them for our accounts.
Your choices and rights
- Turn off the Share Stats switch in Settings at any time. Nothing more is sent from then on.
- Turn off the Leaderboard switch in Settings to delete your entry from the leaderboard.
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on your device and reset the random IDs.
- Allow or stop tracking at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. When tracking is off, your advertising identifier is not shared.
- To have Meta's ad measurements about your device deleted, email us and we'll ask Meta. You can also manage how Meta uses data from apps in your Facebook or Instagram settings (Off-Meta activity).
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, delete or object to the use of your information. Email us and we'll respond within the time the law requires. The stats aren't linked to a name or account, so we may not be able to single out yours.
Links
The game's Settings link to this page and to the support page. They open in Safari; the game itself shows no web pages.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and operation.
Emailing us
If you email support, we use your email address and what you send only to answer you, and delete it when it's no longer needed.
Children
Goldfall Tower is rated 9+ on the App Store and isn't directed at children under 13. The stats are anonymous and contain no personal information such as a name or contact details. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it. Purchases on a child's account follow the family's Apple settings, such as Ask to Buy.
Changes
If the game starts collecting anything new, this policy and the App Store privacy label will be updated before that version is released, with a new effective date. This version adds the leaderboard, ad measurement with Meta's SDK, the purchase records Apple sends us, and our own analytics server, with gameplay stats on from the first launch and tests of small changes.
